still picking it clean after all these years...

Congrats to Mr. Omar Vizquel! On 5/25 after the completion of game two of the double header against the Florida Marlins, the ageless wonder (now 41) passed Venezuelan Luis Aparicio for most games played as a shortstop. His 2584th game surpassed his fellow countryman's record which stood since 1973. One great shining moment in the otherwise abysmal '08 start for the San Fransico Giants.

Project Gary

When myspace said 'click here' for a clip of Project Gary, I thought it was being sly again and knowingly using my info to 'SPAM' me directly. For shits and giggles I clicked away and to my surprise, Project Gary is an actual sitcom premiering on CBS this upcoming fall! And to add, the show is a carbon copy of my life! Well, maybe not. Read and Watch on.

The Synopsis from CBS.com: Jay Mohr stars as Gary Barnes, a recently single painting contractor who must deal with his controlling ex-wife, Allison, as he faces post-divorce mayhem after 15 years of marriage

A 66-year wait for their diploma...

Super cool story. Taken from angryasianman.com

I mentioned this story a few weeks back, about a special ceremony at the University of Washington to honor Japanese Americans who had to leave the university in 1942 to relocate to internment camps after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Over the weekend, more than sixty years later, those former students finally got to graduate: Former Japanese-American students graduate UW after a 66-year wait.

On Sunday, about 200 former UW students—most now in their 80s—or their family members accepted honorary diplomas. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, a former internee himself, was on hand to deliver the keynote address. I'm sure for a lot of folks, it was about damn time. Congratulations to the class of 2008, finally.

Awareness Now! Asian American Pacific Heritage Month

It's time for some Asian American (AA) pride!!! This is a really great current event: This month is Asian American Pacific Heritage Month. A group involved is Asia Society. Their main hope is to spread general awareness of Asian Americans as a living and breathing culture. The snippet below features a variety of notable AAs expressing themselves with their own personal stories. Asia Society asked these AAs "what is your story? "

New Glasses (Stunna Glasses)

Ahh clarity! After approx. 2.5 years, it was time to replace my glasses. My old ones were significantly scratched just due to normal wear and tear. These are similar however, these have a gray plastic finish on the lower half of the frame. The style is a combination of my last pair and the pair before that.

Say Wha?

Gabe's hearing is WNL (within normal limits)! Who would've thunk it? HIPAA says Gabe is an exception since I informally tested him and we go waaay back.

I'm running too loud on the treadmill!?

Yesterday, after running 30 minutes on the 'mill at the '24 Hr' gym in Northgate, the man on the neighboring machine turns to me and says, "just for your information, this machine (pointing to the one he's on) is the quietest treadmill at this gym." Still catching my breathe from running intervals (1 minutes sprints w/ 1 minute jogs in between) for the past 10 minutes of my run I simply nodded and gave him the thumbs up.

As I further gathered by breathe, I realized his intentions: he thought I was recklessly stomping on the 'mill and in reaction was trying to politely ask me to cut it out. For the record, one of two things happens with 'mills at the gym: 1) they all make 'noise' regardless of which one you choose 2) sprinting on 'mills requires steps with considerable more force.

I thought some more. Why would this bug him? This dude was just jogging/walking (jowalking) on his machine (making minimal noise) and maybe he felt I should make similar noise regardless of my pace? and/or was he just jealous that I was going 3X as fast as his bar-holding 3 mph gimpy pace? does he know what intervals are and what they require? I dunno...I wanted to tell him to sprint on HIS 'mill and see if he can avoid making noise.

This whole thing kinda irked me. Grr...I'd rather not have figuratively treaded softly in my response back to him...however, I may see this douche again at the gym.

Bringing Sexy Back? Literally...

30 year-old Bill Gates circa 1985. Apparently reports of these pics used for Teen Beat magazine are false (too bad!) . This photo shoot was for the release of Microsoft Windows 1.0. Source.

He's sooo dreamy, right girls? I know, it's one of those "I've seen THESE PICS before," but hey, it's too damn funny.

Rain vs Colbert

This is HILARious:

"On Monday, there was a dance-off between Colbert and his 'arch-nemesis'--Rain "비" perhaps the most popular K-pop star, who's making his Hollywood debut in "SpeedRacer."

This Rain-Colbert 'feud' began last year when Colbert was incensed, in the usual Colbert fashion, that Rain was named by Time in April 2006, as one of the "100 Most Influential People Who Shape Our World." In 2007, Rain was voted by Time Magazine's online user poll as the most influential person in 2007, although he didn't make it into the magazine's actual list."

Early Lead Slips Away; 'AuDs and SLPs' End Regular Season with Winning Record

AuDies and Speechies (3-2) closed out the regular season with a 14-5 loss to the Boom Sticks (5-0) on 5/4. 'AuD and SLPs' held the lead 5-4 through the first two frames, however the 'Sticks capitalized on a series of walks and hits by driving in 9 runs with some pull happy offense in the later innings.

The Skip chimed in after the game: "I'm impressed! We gave these guys a run for their money in the first couple of innings. They seemed really frustrated out there...we got a kick out of them squirming a bit. But seriously, in the end, they are a solid team up and down the line up...they should try their luck in the more competitive Cascade league."

Looking back at the
Spring '08 season: "We had a nice string of wins this season. I've played in teams back in college that went 0-5...so I know what it's like to lose and would be content if we had just won one game this season. But, you know, I just like throwing the ball around with these guys and gals. The bond was there that made for a really fun time...the most fun I've had on a Co-Rec team. "

In regards to the upcoming playoffs: "I've got my fingers crossed that playoffs work for the majority of the team's schedule. We are definitely ready for the competition..who knows we may see the 'Sticks again...we definitely know what they are made of and can brace ourselves if we cross paths again."

You knows Yuz 'a Outta Uwajimaya

*Gasp* Asians! Everywhere! I can't believe I've held out for ~8 months to get back down here (it's only 4 miles away, however it's south of downtown by SafeCo and Qwest Field and can get heavily congested). Basically I needed to restock on all stuff Asian. Notice two things in this pic: 1) Colin actually buying vegetables. 2) Me looking way too happy to be holding groceries.

PSP(p): Play Station Portable (procrastinator)

Admit it, everyone procrastinates. Yea, I'm pointing at you *finger pointing* (you could be doing something a lot more constructive then reading my geeked-out blog)! But yea, 'procras. It's just a matter of how you go about doing it.

Many thankful thanks to Roth. His 'old PSP he bestowed unto me for my birthday is currently my main source. It helps me log those invaluable mind numbing/thumb mashing hours of fun. Right now, I'm hook on MLB '08 The Show. No surprise here given my love for all things baseball. Other notable games I'm digging include Burnout Legends and GTA: Liberty City Stories. The PSP(p) is tying me over I finally succumb to purchasing a PS3 to get GTA IV. hehe. THAT will be the definitive king of facilitating procrastination.

Comb the Desert!

This cracks me up all the time:

Northlake Tavern Pizza 5/1

You're looking at the half logger special/half Italian special pie from Northlake Tavern in Seattle. It served 4.5* hungry grad students looking for a comforting lunch between classes. Check it out if you're around the U District.

Logger Special - A hearty pizza with real Canadian bacon, Italian beef sausage, black olives, fresh cut green peppers and onions.

Italian Special - Italian beef sausage, salami, fresh sliced mushrooms, tomatoes and onions.

*Eric came late and got a slice and some scraps...sorry man!
